Happy Hullabaloo!!!
Phew, what a wicked night.
As the night went on, I would look out into the crowd and think "I can't believe how amazing this party is". I couldn't help but be reminded of Hulla's first year when everyone in the building could tell this was such a different and unique groundbreaking event. It was like this was Day 1 of Hulla: The Next Generation or something. One of the biggest things hurting the scene for some time now has been the lack of new blood entering it. It was so great to have so many new faces come out and show they are more than qualified to "carry the torch" and re-energise the scene with their enthusiasm and vibe. I feel re-energised myself, thanks to you. I really had no idea how this party might do and was caught off guard by the turnout. I knew the party would perform well, as they always do, but we haven't had an actual sold out event in like 2 years. My apologies to those who were turned away, and my apologies to those who were stuck outside while the entrance area and coat check could decongest. I certainly appreciate your patience and good spirits while you waited . I thought the party itself kicked some serious ass from beginning to end, and it was amazing to see how many people were left as the night went on. When I took the mic at the end of my set, I was genuinely getting choked up over the support all the Hulla-ravers have showed me. Most people may not realise this, but we hardly promoted this event through traditional means. We literally only distributed a few thousands actual printed flyers. Only sold tickets through a couple of outlets. Featured music that you never hear anywhere. If that doesn't qualify as completely underground support, I don't know what does. No one can throw a party in this way and get this kind of support. It's still amazing to me what a special thing we have. I want to thank all those who helped make this night possible, from Robin who stood outside in the cold most of the night, to Kristine (moondancer) who took a week off work so she could make all those valentine decorations you saw everywhere. The Friendship crew who arrived early to help set up, and welcome everyone at the door. The Opera House management who bent backwards to accomodate me and are a pleasure to work with. Say what you will about the venue, but I love doing my parties there and if it weren't for them I would have hung up my promoters cap a while ago. All of the DJs and MCs and most of all of you who came and make the party what it is. ps: I'd also like to say a special thanks to E-by-gum. I mentioned it on the mic, but if you missed it, that was his left ever MC appearance - for good this time. I want to wish him the best of luck as he has joined the military and as such he won't be around anymore. So, goodbye old friend and thanks for coming out of retirement for the last few Hullas . Best of luck with everything. |

Unfortunately nothing has changed since I wrote my "Economics of the rave scene" post. I'd love to see a big hulla more than anyone, but there are certain economic realities that make it impossible and I don't know if that will ever change.

I *heart* Hullabaloo...so much....
I've only been to 3 parties....and each one just gets better than the last....I'm already looking forward to the next one....honeslty....I feel that Hulla parties are a true representation of what the scene should be everywhere....if every party wa slike Hulla...life would be good... but then again....if every party was like Hullabaloo....it wouldn't be as special. So I'm glad that once a month I can come to Hulla and just....let everything go and party the way I want to. I actually want to learn to spin HHC and ...and spin in an up & comers room at Hulla one day....that would be amazing....this is gonna sound so gay but Happy Hardcore is the best thing to ever happen to me. ...I've been roped into this for life. And I love.

I had the absolute best time i've ever had at a party.
I mean, Hulla's are my all time fav but there was definitely something special about this one. The vibe was out of this world and the turn out was amazing. I would like to especially thank Chris and Robin for making it happen, You Guys Rock!!!! As for all the dj's and mc's thanks a bunch for making it such a magical evening filled with awesome choons and chants. As for all my friends old and new, it was a pleasure as always to see you. I can't wait to see everyones smiling face in May Cheers and *hugZ*

don't worry teknoprincess. Happy Hardcore has changed my life 2. Before HHC i only spun one straight style, boaring track after another. After HHC, my brain was energized and now i never run out of ideas on how to spin tracks. Standard, BCN style its all good. HHC has the best style of mixing and innovative styles. And now that ive heard Shakey's set and all the new tracks looks like im gonna have to send my paycheques to all the hhc record stores. Cuz with tracks like Boom pow, PSA, and skillz and styles. Hardcore is gonna be rockin for years to come.

I just added another thousand to my student loans to get mine. Got a couple no pay gigs around here and threw a couple raves, but mixin's fun enough to do for free if you ask me. Just the "thank you"s are enough to make it all worth it. On the party, I'd say IT ROCKED. Brought 9 newbies and they LOVED it!! Funny, both hulla's I've made it to so far were E by gum's "last" parties. Peace. |
