I just realised this party is my 10 year anniversary of being Anabolic Frolic
I wrote a little something reflecting on the beginning at my frolic blog...

HAPPY 10TH DJ-VERSARY! "DJ endorFUN" --- that is priceless. Thank you for sharing your memories of how it all began. And of course beyond that: thanks for all of your work in the years since.

this is really quite funny Frolic that you posted this when you did.. My boyfriend and I were just yesterday having a conversation about how you acquired your psuedonym...
My best guess was that Anabolic Frolic was as follows... anabolic.. ": the process of making something complex out of smaller pieces ( ie anabolism...) so i figured that possibly... due to the nature of Dj'ing, using records ( smaller parts) to make a dj set ( larger parts ) that was how you got the name... and i figured Frolic was your last name... it is < RIght? um.. so yeah.. i guess i have some idea... and also knowin you did everything you did, and started from scratch.. that gives me hope that i too may be able to play some large shows one day... that would be awesome |

whoa, I'm actually in that stage now. Just bought turntables not long ago and slowly building up a vinyl collection. I've been pondering my DJ name as well. The Architech was an obvious choice since I'm an architecture major and that's usually how people remember me, but the first name I had thought up a while back, and I'm still considering, is The Metabolic Chimera. I came up with the idea about a year ago. I'm not exactly using the words by their more common meanings. An alternative definition of metabolic is "undergoing metamorphosis". And other than the mythical creature, chimera can also mean "A fanciful mental illusion or fabrication." So in combination I made the two to mean a constantly changing and evolving dream or fantasy. I love it, but I always thought it was long as a DJ name and would be hard to remember. Oh well, I have a while before I'll be spinning in any clubs so I've got some time to think about it.

It is now. Robin and I had our names legally changed to Frolic. We've been known as the Frolic's for several years and it felt right to do that. Kind of like Tom Cruise wasn't born Tom Cruise, but he is now. |

I always find it funny when I find out DJ's real names because I've known them by their DJ name for so long.

Could go with something to do with the style of music you play...or an acquired nickname...or a unique screenname...or just something cryptic that holds some meaning to you, so you can give a complicated explanation every time someone asks what the name means. For example, my 3 DJ/PA/producer names are:
Da 1 Like Damaja: When I first started using this name, I was playing mainly jungle (I still play jungle, but also house, techno, trance, hardcore, etc). Jungle, of course, is breakbeat-based. When you break something, it becomes broken, or damaged. And someone who breaks stuff (like beats) could be called a damager. I simply altered the spelling of damager to damaja. Da 1 Like is something that jungle MCs used to say. I added it to my name when I found out there was already a hiphop artist called Jeru the Damaja, so that there wouldn't be any confusion. I use it for funky stuff mainly--acid house, house, tribal house, jungle, UK hardcore (oldskool). DJ Demonseed: I was using this name for years as my handle on BayMOO (telnet://baymoo.org:8888), as well as my artist name as a death metal soloist, before starting to use it as a DJ name. It originally came from a line in the song Captor of Sin by Slayer (thanks to Steve "DBL/Duckyblanket/1992" Floro for tracking that down...I'd been under the assumption it was a misheard lyric in Angel of Death). I use it for hard dark evil stuff--evilstep drum'n'bass, gabber, noisecore etc. neur0mancer (spelled with a zero, all lowercase): When I play/produce ambient, Goa, etc, my goal is to fuck with people's minds. If people ask me what kinda trance I like, I tell them I like uber-intense mindfuck psychedelic trance. And whatever sort of trippy stuff I'm doing, be it Goa or acidy ambient or bleep-and-subbass minimal atmospheric, the uber-intense mindfuck is what I'm trying to inflict upon my listeners. And to me, a neuromancer, that is, a master of the arcane arts of manipulation of the mind, would be a master of the uber-intense mindfuck. So to me, it fits. The term, of course, comes from William Gibson's novel of the same name. I also have a side project called Ebi Tamago. Ebi means shrimp or prawns, and Tamago means egg, as in an omelette or whatever (but not specifically, cuz "omelette" is omeretsu). They're 2 kinds of sushi. It's basically a nonsense name, to fit a nonsense character, which is central to Project Ebi Tamago, an experiment in multi/mass-media memetic engineering that I haven't put the proper effort and resources into that are required for such a project. In other words, the goal of the experiment is to take the phenomenon of the media meme in its interaction with "All Your Base" and other such phenomena, and actually design and construct and seed a self-replicating meme to take best advantage of the workings of the meme. But I've been working on it since 2000 and haven't really gotten it started yet (it had a weird flash website for a while, and it's got a noisecore tune out).

BTW gratz Chris, long time. I missed mine, I think I've had the Demonseed nickname since about 1991 or 1992.
