Anyone who is interested in learning more about Glowsticking (Freehand or Stringing) might want to check out www.glowsticking.com. There are videos, tutorial articles, guides, and a large community of glowstickers who love to share their knowledge with others. However it should be known that battling is frowned upon. We tend to look at glowsticking as an art like chip said, not really something that can be judged by others. We do it strictly for love of doing it and strive for self improvement vs trying to best others. Hope to see some of you on the boards!

glowsticking is the physical phusing of mind and body as your brain interprets the blips and blips of the electronic frequencies and controls your hands holding the glowsticks! its a beautiful thing! for people starting poi, take the strings in your hands, visualize and spin ur right hand in a horizontal figure eight. then swing the left stick from a 6:00 position to the 12:00 postion and spin a sideways 8 as well and bring them together. your right hand will go left to right in the 8 patt. your left hand will go right to left in the sideways 8 patt. when u do this bring them together. that is the basic swing of poi.

i wouldn't call what we are doing a "battle", the judging is just for fun and i don't even care if there is a judge at all or not, but some people wanna so wahtever, I would basically see this as many glowstickers and people interested in the art comming together at hulla to showcase thier talent.

From what I can tell, this contest is more like a an exhibition of peoples talent with glow sticks, everyone's turn will be appreciated (plur). Even if there are winners, I don't think that's necessarily something to be frowned upon. But everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

If people start judging it, and winners are going to be "selected" I'll walk of before the end of the competition, even if I'm winning. As kewl as it is to have a competition, it's art. I glowstick to show other people pictures painted with light. A brief glimpse into the artistic workings of my mind. I do not open that to judgement, critique or anything of the sort. I put it out there for people to enjoy, not to tell me how much I suck or how good I am. Because I don't care. I'm not good, I'm not shitty, I'm ME. That's my contribution to the vibe. :P Plus, when I'm in any sort of competitive situation, I start to get nervous and upset. I really don't want that sort of thing, when raves are my way of escaping the garbage I have to put up with in day-to-day life.

Poi is basically glowsticking with strings so the glowstick is held away from the body and a wide variety of swings and spins can be used
