the mcs & the (maybe will be) box set
i was reading a post asking where gobstopper was
then i realized that he wasnt THERE funtopia 7 was my hulla and i had heard none of the mcs except for gobstopper and STORM of course now during the night, the mcs didnt really bother me HOWEVER now i listen to the box set, and all the mcs except the two i named above plus maybe one other are really repetitive is there a lack of ability to make new rhymes, im seriously thinking i could pull something like that off!!! i loved silver1 and wolfs set for example, but the mcing really gets to me same lines over and over (not even sure who the mc was; PS I liked the line when i heard it the first time, but not like over and over) i was planning on buying recordings after this hulla too, but if i cant listen to the mixes without going Grrrr.. im kinda thinking, should i bother is anybody else feelin the same way? like a GRrrrrrrrr kinda feelin? EDITED IN: mind you ill probably still buy it to support hulla

Storm was VERY repeative.... gobstopper was allright, he didn't really repeat ( but he has been known to).... ED was amazing( althought that was the first time I heard him mc a whole set, so I can't remember if he repated anything but he sounded good) , Jumper was VERY repeative....

all i can say is welcome to hulla. Every mc is different. some have more talent than others.

ED is definitely good
he just creeps me out slightly seems a little too sexual Jumper might as well be Flipside and that's not a compliment How come JD doesn't do hardcore any more? I listen to these old hulla recordings and they drive me wild, E By Gum and JD mcing side by side, frankly JD puts E By Gum to shame every time cause EBG can't stop repeating the same annoying things...

the MC in question on Wolf/Silver1's set was MCED..
I listened to a good chunk of that set the other night on the CD, and I didnt remember hearing any repeated rhymes... regardless, Mike (MCED) is a great MC in my opinion. Not only does he give it all he's got each time he's out there, but he keeps coming up with new stuff. Without naming names, there are others out there that just spit out the same 5 rhymes night after night and everyone seems to love it... most just dont realize it. Not only have I listened to his stuff, but he's MC'd a couple of my sets in the past.. I love working with him.. He knows when to get on the mic and get things going, and also when to put it down and let the tracks do the talking for a minute or two. Unfortunately some MC's are just plain annoying. To the point where i've just wanted to (and actually done it a few times), unplug thier mic from the mixer. From day one Mike mastered this, and I would Never give 2 thoughts about having him on the mic for me. (Infact, we have a CD coming quite soon!) So, my suggestion is take another listen... I think you might change your opinion..

i'd love it if we had the option to get a version of the cd with no MC...i'm sure that would mean we couldn't hear the crowd, but in some cases i'd be willing to give that up (i.e. Frolic's set from anthems which Kwik all but ruins by saying "yeeeeaaaaahhhh" 8.4 million times)

yeah i'll modify my comment... i like hearing mc's on sets when they dont rhyme to hearbeats (OFF BEAT, mind you...) RIDE RIDE RIDE sounds of the dj frisky inSIDE SIDE SIDE SIDE
THAT ruins the mix for me. but then again, it gives me a good laugh. |

it depends on who is mc'ing the set. one of my favorite hulla sets is Silve1 @ accelerator with Gobstopper and enD.

I haven't had a chance to listen to the whole CD yet, but rest assured that I am my own worst critic... each time I listen to myself I find things that I like, and things that I don't like.
I'll try to remember to keep the 'Hang on here we go' to a minimum, innit. MCED |

I'd like to see ED vs JD for Dougal. Not that anyone asked me.
Or how about ANYONE VS ANYONE? Yeah, I didn't think so. |
