Rochester Ferry Crew!!!!
I'm considering taking the new ferry over from Rochester to Toronto for Hulla. With gas prices being what they are I think I might just walk on and then take a taxi from the Toronto port. Is anyone else thinking about it? If there are, we should all plan to be on the same one!

yeah definitly thinking of at least trying out the ferry once, to see if it actually is cheaper. See if the price difference is worth not having a vehicle. would definitly go for the all on one idea!

wow that is such a rip off
i really thought the ferry would be way faster it takes us from syracuse about a tank of gas ($20)-split between 2-4 people tolls are probly 10 dollars more or less and 4 hours...which really isn't that much more than the ferry considering it takes us an hour and a half to get to rochester but definately less money lol unless my math stupidity prevails and i am thinking about this all wrong

well the perks are no traffic, and no paying to park your car since you woudln't need to bring it, saves some money there =)

we never pay to park though...we always end up finding free parking somewhere, and walking is free nowadays...and traffic schmaffic...nobody in canada drives anyways
plus half the fun is the roadtrip aspect of it...unless my car dies in rochester, i don't plan on taking the ferry

not to mention dealing with customs would be way faster I would imagine. Probably just a little office, not a huge border crossing.

Chapter 1 of "The Cute Discount" would go something like this
Tip: Wear pajamas when crossing the border. Terrorists don't wear pajamas. Example: Customs Agent: "Where are you going?" Sunny: "To our friend Jim's birthday party" *insert smile here* CA: "Okay" Sunny: "....." Courtney: "are we all set?" CA: "Yep, have fun." |

It's not just the convenience of not having to drive, or use the gas, and the wear-n-tear on your vehicle... it's also the attractiveness of a couple hours on the open water, with amenities such as a restaurant/bar lounge, internet cafe, two MOVIE theatres, etc. to pass the time more quickly and enjoyably.
Well worth the $ if you ask me. |

True... it'd be way more fun than a car trip for sure.
Wish I could take a boat.

I so want to do this sometime just for fun! hehehe As for border crossings. On the way into the US this past weekend they checked 2 out of 3 of the ppl in our cars id's and just asked us where we were going... and on the way back they didnt check any of the 4 ppl in the vehicles id and just asked us how long we had been in the states for. It was too easy...

i hope customs is less of a hassle, everytime i go into canada i get the third degree, one time made me even go inside and wait for about 2 hours while they checked on my identity! but goin back to US is a breeze. If its between 3am and 7am just show ID and ur in!
Very excited about the new ferry, my car is gettin where i dont trust it for long trips anymore, so now i dont gotta worry. I figure I'd happily pay twice as much to get to tdot ($60 round trip as opposed to $30 tank of gas) for the comfort, and ease. Especially if ppl meet up and head over together, instead of having 4ppl in a car we could have like 12 on a boat, that would rock so much more! |

meh, maybe if the price eventually comes down. it would definately be fun, especially the ride back but way too much $$. for now it seems like a much better idea to spend the extra half hour/hour of driving time and split gas and toll costs between the 4 or 5 people in a car.
hmmm....maybe if they offered discounts for larger groups. but until then I'll just continue taking the highway. |

Well, looks like I'll be on the ferry departing Rochester at 1:30pm on Saturday, arriving in Toronto at 3:45.
I'll then be leaving on Sunday at 10:30am, arriving home at 12:45. Anyone else coming can just look for the jumping MC on the ferry . |

I saw that ferry parked when I was drinking beer at waterside sports. Its pretty... and huge. I wonder if zebra mussles have attatched themselves to the bottom yet....
