Hulla infoline R.I.P
Well, I figured I'd wait till after the party to see if anyone noticed that our infoline no longer exists and I haven't gotten a single comment.
Bell had been hosting it, but I had gotten in a dispute with them over the charges and was going to switch it to another system. It was at that point I wondered what the purpose of having an infoline anymore was, since locations are not secret anymore and everything else they can find out from the flyer (online or printed). Even if we throw an event somewhere other than the Opera House, the location would be clearly posted on all promotional material and tickets. So with that, the infoline died and we proceeded as usual. I'll be the first one to go on a nostalgic trip about the "old days" (pre-internet revolution) and how you would call one infoline after the next, trying to figure out what parties were coming up. And of course the excitement of calling an infoline the day of the event and being excited that the message had been replaced and you were about to get the location of the party and start scribbling down directions. Like many things, it's been replaced by the net, but it's noteworthy enough to write about it's demise. |

I agree. In todays party scene infolines are going away. Just don't need them. I can't remember the last time I called one...

^^^ Agreed as well. Although there is something "old skool" about the infoline.
But, since I'm not oldskool, I don't think I'll miss them that much - I've only used the Hulla line once.

The last one I called was after we went into an internet cafe in New Orleans and started looking for parties that were happening somewhere on our way home to Toronto. We found one in Columbus Ohio and left NO, stayed the night in Tenn then drove 12 hours the next day and called the info line we got off then net to get dirrections once we hit the Columbus city limits.
It was really exciting, driving along having no idea where we were while looking at an atlas and listening to directions and yelling at the pasengers to "shut up! I can't hear"

infolines here are very important as venues are not announced ahead of time, but i cant see the importance if you are announcing details ahead of time.

~ hey snoope ~ remember when you, april and i would call the info line for a party and then drive all around and end up getting lost in downtown detroit? hahaha...
it was seriously a lot of fun to not know all the venues and have to call the info line like, 2 hours prior to the start of the party because the venue was illegal and had to be kept a secret and then drive all around looking... youd have all yer windows rolled down in the dead of winter trying to follow the sound of the beats.... but after a while ya just knew where all the venues were and the novelty began to wear off. i miss those days.

I think I have only used one info line to a house party. I think that info lines were buried a long time ago.

The infoline would be useful though, if Chris threw a special "underground party" that even the media wasn't aware of... something to hope for... heh

here in Ottawa we still have infolines, MOST ravers don't really need them because you can find all the info on xvi, but not everyone is on xvi who goes to raves, so they do come in handy once in a while.
I don't really use info lines in Ottawa because I usually find out the venue pretty quickly anyways, but I use them for Montreal parties whenever I go. Montreal info lines are funny because they usually give the direstions in French first (thank god french is my first language) and then they give them in English but with a VERY bad accent (thank god I am fluent in English as well) so for me when I actually need info lines I'm safe. The last time I called an info line for a MOntreal party the guy talked SO fast, I must have called litteraly 10 times because I actually got the directions down right and that's listening to both French AND English :P
