Smile Happy Hullabaloo!!!

Phew, what a wicked night.

As the night went on, I would look out into the crowd and think "I can't believe how amazing this party is". I couldn't help but be reminded of Hulla's first year when everyone in the building could tell this was such a different and unique groundbreaking event. It was like this was Day 1 of Hulla: The Next Generation or something.

One of the biggest things hurting the scene for some time now has been the lack of new blood entering it. It was so great to have so many new faces come out and show they are more than qualified to "carry the torch" and re-energise the scene with their enthusiasm and vibe. I feel re-energised myself, thanks to you.

I really had no idea how this party might do and was caught off guard by the turnout. I knew the party would perform well, as they always do, but we haven't had an actual sold out event in like 2 years. My apologies to those who were turned away, and my apologies to those who were stuck outside while the entrance area and coat check could decongest. I certainly appreciate your patience and good spirits while you waited .

I thought the party itself kicked some serious ass from beginning to end, and it was amazing to see how many people were left as the night went on.

When I took the mic at the end of my set, I was genuinely getting choked up over the support all the Hulla-ravers have showed me. Most people may not realise this, but we hardly promoted this event through traditional means. We literally only distributed a few thousands actual printed flyers. Only sold tickets through a couple of outlets. Featured music that you never hear anywhere. If that doesn't qualify as completely underground support, I don't know what does. No one can throw a party in this way and get this kind of support. It's still amazing to me what a special thing we have.

I want to thank all those who helped make this night possible, from Robin who stood outside in the cold most of the night, to Kristine (moondancer) who took a week off work so she could make all those valentine decorations you saw everywhere. The Friendship crew who arrived early to help set up, and welcome everyone at the door. The Opera House management who bent backwards to accomodate me and are a pleasure to work with. Say what you will about the venue, but I love doing my parties there and if it weren't for them I would have hung up my promoters cap a while ago. All of the DJs and MCs and most of all of you who came and make the party what it is.

ps: I'd also like to say a special thanks to E-by-gum. I mentioned it on the mic, but if you missed it, that was his left ever MC appearance - for good this time. I want to wish him the best of luck as he has joined the military and as such he won't be around anymore. So, goodbye old friend and thanks for coming out of retirement for the last few Hullas . Best of luck with everything.
