Soooo i drove it to hulla and parked ON queen street like 2 doors down from the opera house on that side, and received a $30 parking ticket... that im not about to pay... it does say it could go on your credit report if you dont pay it.
does anybody know anything about this? *is not about to pay ticket* and yeah i swear the sign said like no parking between 9am and 6pm or something but IDK i wasnt paying that much attention... |

If you live more than 100 km outside the city of Toronto you're not required to pay it.

I don't know, but the 100 km thing sounds like a myth to me.

We've never, ever paid our parking tickets from Toronto -- going back 4 years and have never once had anything happen.

Sorry, but pay the ticket... If you feel that you received it in error, than have someone you know in TO to go take pictures of the signs to make sure you were in the wrong, and file a protest. If you were in the wrong, fess up and pay it.
However, if you don't pay it, do you know what happens, we Torontoians get screwed as we pay for your ticket in higher taxes. Next time, park in the green P parking lot down the street on Broadview and Queen that would of cost you $3 for overnight parking and is a short walk away. |

I think filing a complaint for a 30 dollar ticket is kinda crazy.

I NEVER pay parking tickets. I fight every one I get and always win, 90% of the time the parking enforcement officer doesn't even show up to court. However, if you live outside of Toronto but in Ontario its not really worth your time to drive into the city to fight it, just pay it online.
If you live outside of Ontario you don't have to pay it. There's no enforceable agreement between the provinces or any of the US states for municipal parking infractions. If you don't pay your ticket and you live in Ontario then you won't be able to renew your plates. There's no such thing as "filing a complaint" for getting a parking ticket. The only way to resolve it is to go to court, or argue with the lady at one of the municipal parking operations offices on the back of your ticket, which will usually get you nowhere unless you can prove to her the officer was completely in the wrong. dude, it's $30.
just pay the damn ticket. there's a reason why they say no parking in certain areas. just be lucky you didn't get towed. Then, you'd be forced to pay a few hundred dollars if you wanted your car back. There's no fighting that. Pay it, then you can decide if you want to take the parking enforcement to court to re-coop costs. Yes it does cost a few hundred dollars. The price of the ticket, a highly inflated towing cost, and then there's all these other "fees" such as "storage" (billed per 1/2 hour i think), "moving", "processing", etc... you'll be well over $200 just for it being there for an hour or so. If you do live in Ontario, you WILL NOT be able to renew your plates if you don't pay it. It will go against your plate number, and you'll be forced to. It's $30. Pay it. Stop complaining. It's part of owning and driving a car.

Sorry.. but we have a judicial system in this country for a reason. You have a right as a citizen to challenge any charges laid against you. If you feel you have been unfairly charged, then you should definitely go to court and challenge the officer in question. Even if you feel the charges were valid, you STILL have the right to go to court and plead guilty with an explanation. As for getting towed, that's an invalid argument as you can only be towed if your parked in a signed "no stopping" or "no standing" zone. |

if you're american, don't pay...
if you are canadian, they will track you down. i knew someone from thunderbay who got a ticket mailed to them. here's the thing... since there's no voluntary amount, just wait a month. if the vehicle owner gets a white ticket in the mail (it usually gives you about 2 weeks to pay the 30 bucks before it goes up to 60 and then to 75), then you have to pay (mail in a check)). otherwise, forget about it... |

yeah, there's nothing the cancops can to for americans...
just forget about it. i don't even think the cancops have access to see your mailing address... also on a completely unrelated note, about 1/4 of the parking tickets in the city are given by private companies and our mayer, david miller, said that the current law is that we only have to pay the actual legit toronto city parking tickets (though your ticket is actually a legit ticket so this is a moot point) |

i thought that private companies didnt affect you, until i started getting collections letters. They do matter. If you don't get letters in the mail, dont worry about it. If you do get letters in the mail, then pay the damn thing. |
