i think plenty of people will need help getting there. don't worry you're not alone. are those the real directions up there? the best way to get there? if everyone printed a copy and brought it with them that would make it easier. instead of standing around on the street outside the opera house haphazardly yelling directions

to summerize: Cherry Beach is closed, so if there is an after party, it's not going to be there.

ok, so i went to the sunday promise party on cherry beach. this was my first time ever there. it was a good time!

from talking to people there, it seems as if this party wasn't in the exact spot that most of the the cherry beach promise parties are. that is because the usual spot is still undergoing some construction and has a fence around it. however, the spot where we did have the party is a very nice spot and very near to the original location, and technically is still a part of cherry beach.

the spot where we partied is at the very bottom of cherry street. you will see a parking lot. it is off in "the woods" (an area that has several trees, but the trees are spaced out enough to allow for dancing) which are to the left of the parking lot.

my advise would be to go down to cherry beach and see if your usual spot is blocked off or not. if it isn't, then you can go there. if it is, then head to the woods which are just a hop, skip, and jump away. they are also very beautiful . . . the trees are sooOOoo tall! and there is so much white fluff on the ground from dandilions, and some of it is floating through the air . . . it really feels like a magical location.

anyways, like i said it was my first time going there. it was a little hard for me to find, because cherry street is a weird, curvey street, and also it's called "sumach" street until it gets to eastern avenue, which is south of king street (after which sumach turns into cherry street).

NEW AND IMPROVED DIRECTIONS TO CHERRY BEACH:

IF YOU ARE COMING STRAIGHT FROM THE OPERA HOUSE:

take the queen street car westbound (queen is a street that runs east-west). the street you want to go down is sumach street (a street which runs north-south). but i'm not sure if the street car stops at sumach street. ask the driver if it does. if not, ask to be let off at river street and then continue to walk west (same direction as street car) until you get to sumach.

(note: the two main streets that sumach is in between are river street, to the east, and parliament, to the west. so if you are coming from the east (the opera house), if you go past parliament you have gone too far. if you are coming from the west, if you go past river street, you have gone too far.)

go south on sumach (since you were travelling west, south will be to your left) and eventually sumach will become cherry street (once you get to eastern avenue).

follow cherry street all the way until the end, just past unwin avenue. it's a little confusing, though, because when you get to lakeshore, it looks as though cherry street ends. however, it does not end -- it just curves east (to the left if you're walking south). follow it over the bridge until you reach the end of the street, where you will see the parking lot where the beach and the woods are.

To summerize, cherry beach is open and we are going there.

ok..

the park surrounding cherry beach is open..

the actual little strip that was cherry beach is gone... LOL

but you can easily park in the lot and walk up the shore a bit... there is trails and stuff... just other areas of "cherry beach" just not the usual spot...

thats my understanding...

and as for directions... i always just take a cab

Lightbulb Torontonians had to fight pretty hard to keep the (Promise)Sunday Cherry Beach party

As my post title states, Torontonians had to fight city hall pretty hard to get the Sunday (promise) afternoon parties to continue. It was a long battle, so please keep this in mind about the confusion.

I think the other important thing to add is what basic said already- the usual Promise party doesn't start untill later ( the last one was 3pm) that day, and I would like to add to that that they are also passing a hat, as now that they have the local city councillors blessing to go ahead with these events, they need to cover insurance & permit costs.

Also a plea from an emailer from Dave & irving:
Quote:
We have been asked by Parks to put a lid on public consumption of alcohol, which is reasonable. It’s delicate and we have a trial permit, so understand that alcohol in public spaces is not ok. David and Irving will need to keep an eye out, so please don’t let us see any. We will have friends helping to remind people of this over the weekend. If we all cooperate here, then we get to have our good times.

the rest of the letter is on Mental Floss' blog as well and it sums up everything else (directions, etc) blog

Yeah, ravers are the cleanest people in the world.

Don't ruin it for the Sunday afternoon crowd.

i don't think anyone here is confusing your sunday afternoon party with our hullabaloo after party... also.. this is just a gathering of ravers enjoying the sun... not an actual party! LOL

i have no intention of going to a party on sunday afternoon... i'll be sleeping!

i'm not worried about it... or rules... bring your booze in a plastic container...period... add it to a juice bottle... and tadaa... you have porto-drinks...

noone is stopping me from boozing it up ...

I mean that the ravers that go in the morning shouldn't wreck it for the more mellow afternoon crowd.
