i was just speaking with someone the other day who told me that the whole area is closed off at this moment with no plans to re-open most of it.
Supposedly he walks his dog down there, and it's been fenced off for a month or so now. I have no clue on the validity of this, but I wouldn't rule it out.. they have been talking about it for a while now (the city)

Although home to many wonderful events over the years Cherry Beach was shut down for a number of reasons. A significant factor was the number of promoters and partiers using it and not cleaning it up afterwards/noise complaints/bullshit from the city/Docks etc. There are also plans to develop that area as part of the waterfront project. There has been an ongoing discussion around the beach for a while now. The Promise guys did such a great job organizing quiet sunday afternoon events there for a few years and they were forced to stop at the end of the summer. I'm sad to lose such a great, chill afternoon. If everyone goes to the beach please leave no trace! There were many discussions on TRIBE about this in the summer if anyone can find them. If it's open we'll be there with our hammock.

This is the right order for the discussion I think. The Star article has since been taken off the newspaper's site.

I think it would be wise to go ahead and have some kind of plan set up just in case cherry beach isn't possible. Better safe than sorry!!!

if not kew beach, there has to be some sort of park or something somewhere that would be sufficient. it would be a shame not to have some sort of outdoor chill out. i'm bringing my hula hoops. woot!

Comfort Zone -an after-afterhours. Opens at 6am, and usually has some of the dirtiest tribal house music in the city.

^^^that's sad.
this "zone" sounds like a good possibiblity. but perhaps they should be warned about our arrival? big? i personally like the idea of bars that open at 6. i can fight the hangover off a little longer and be social instead of passing out on a blanket |
