Speaking of booking hotels.. I've been looking around for the best deals and I'm curious if anyone has booked a hotel using Hotwire.com?? I think I might have found an awesome deal through that site but I've never used them before and I'm curious if anyone else has??

Thats good to hear ^_^ Yeah the only thing that makes me alittle nervous is that you don't find out the name of the hotel you'll be booked at til you actually book it. I guess that's the one thing holding me back from using the site. |

anything in their "A" area isn't too bad for toronto, because they're all downtown and close to the transit system.

yeah I've been looking at the different hotel sites that hotwire says they book through and everything in the downtown area is definetly close enough for me ^_^ I'm so pumped now. Booking the hotel was my biggest worry about this trip. yay!

I kind of prefer www.priceline.com. You get to see the hotels before hand. I was looking at the Holiday Inn Express in Downtown Toronto. According to the Opera House website that one is close to the venue and they have "preferred rates" for ppl attending events at the Opera House.... Is this a good place to stay? Is is really that close??? |

if you use Priceline, you can probably get it for about $60 or $70/night USD or so. They'll most likely give you that hotel, the Merriot at Younge/Bloor, or the Days Inn on Carleton.. any of them are good in the end, but my preference is Courtyard Merriot. soooo many fond memories there. As for what you should know, have you ever been to Canada before or crossed the boarder? That's a whole new post in itself, but if you have, here's some things to keep in mind.. - When you cross, depending on where you do, make sure you have your general information about how to get to the city. The last thing you want to do is stop everywhere trying to get directions. There's no real "bad" part of the city where you'll get car-jacked, but more-so that people just don't know shit. - If you're going to be doing things around the city, park your car and take public transit. It's SO much cheaper if you consider costs for parking. - Parking is generally between $10-$20 depending on which lot and where it is in the city. I've seen it as high as $30, and as low as $5, but that's rare on both sides. - Parking for Hulla is just around the corner from the venue, on Broadview, JUST north of Queen St. It costs $6 i think, all coin machine, for the entire night, last time i checked. That's only good till 6am though, so dont leave your car there and cab back to the hotel unless you put more money in first and get a new ticket!! I've gotten fines before when i just left it there till 11am! - More information about the public transit system can be found at http://www.ttc.ca - it'll get you basically wherever you need to go for $2.75 if you transfer correctly. there's lots more to report, but maybe you could give us some background on your experiences to date in Canada/Toronto so we can help you more?

Thanks.. I have been to Canada a few times but never really spent too much time in Toronto so I do know about the border and what not.. Im just not sure if my buddy is going to go up there with me so I might take this trip solo. Just wanted to get a hotel room where others are so I can meet up with some people before the events and maybe just tag along, if thats a good idea |

I have a doctor appointment that I CANNOT miss at 10:30 that day (tix go on sale at 11 here) I will have to have Heidi snatch some up for me.
I have ALWAYS used priceline when booking hotels, for a while after 9-11 I NEVER paid more than 30 a night...

guys do you really expect a flash point sell out in a matter of hours?
AGT took 8 days to sell out, hopefully this one will take at least that lol. Especially cause I can't get to a computer until 12:30 and I'm worried! |

I think it'll be the same (If not more or less) as AGT which was CAN 40/ USA $34 for the event.. the tickets for the movie I imagine would be cheaper than the event maybe 17 CAN/ $15 US (if im right on the currency) between the two tickets I wounden't be suprise if it totals out to $50. But thats just my Guesstimate.

That just sparked a thought! Will I be able to use my US based Mastercard around Toronto??? I just considered that my credit card may or may not be an acceptable form of payment for the tickets and in general around Toronto.... |

You can use any currency credit card anywhere else in the world. the credit card companies will handle the exchange (usually with a couple of percentage points extra for them).

the international exchange rate for credit transactions on most major credit cards is 2%... meaning that after they figure in the conversion of currency and the different applicable fees, they take a pretty 2% of the initial amount as a 'transaction fee' for their troubles...
so it's best to just bring cash or travellers checks.. thats how i roll... but if i have to swipe my card, like at a nice dinner, make sure you save all reciepts, i found out how hard it can be to get a refund on your credit, from someone in another country!!! |

I use my BANK CARD and I get REALLY small foreign service fees and everythings works out pretty well, you will probably NOT be able to use most ATMs there unless you go to an actual bank. The best place to exchange money is the candystore across from the daysinn and the marriot
