I started attending Hulla last year and have only missed Drift on a Dream. Even though I was new, and no one really knew my girlfriend and I, Robin was always really friendly in line, and always seemed to be smiling. I only found out later that she was Mrs. Frolic, and I guess when I think about how understanding Chris is with these boards, it only seems right that the woman he marries is friendly and outgoing as well.

I am writing the post to thank Robin for going out of her way to help my girlfriend and I enjoy this last and most amazing party. Not only did she allow us to experience a Hulla in a way I never thought I could, she was also there to rescue us from over protective Security.. Security =

I dont know if anyone remembers outside in the smoking section there was a girl wearing a white and black striped shirt. She was getting seriously harrassed by security, and at just TWELVE o'clock in the evening they told her that she would have to leave. I was so scared, and felt a helpless knot in my stomach. I can usually talk my way out of things, and am very friendly, but these people were not listening at all. It started when my girlfriend simply slipped on those Stone Age stairs they have, and took more than 10 seconds to get her balance back. As if these security guards have never been drunk before. Hell, its hard to navigate NORMAL stairs when you are that drunk. Back to the main story though, I found Robin outside and told her the situation. The only time we had ever talked was in line only 2-3 times for 5 minutes a piece. Yet, she was willing to vouch for us, and step in to make sure that my girlfriend was not kicked out. She took a chance on us, and I am glad that we were only drinking and that my girlfriend proved her right by making a quick and full recovery from her ridiculous drunken state.

That kind of trust and friendliness made it that much harder to accept that this was the last time I would be at a Hulla, and most likely the last time I would ever see Chris or Robin.

Does anyone here remember when that guy in the crowd at the end of the night screamed: Fuck you Robin? I was so shocked, and at first I thought it was a joke because it didnt make any sense that someone would say that. After all that she had done for me, I was ready to jump off stage and attack him when he screamed it again. Fortunately he was 'escorted' out.

Thank you Robin, and thank you Chris, for making my short one year of Hulla something that I will remember for a long long time.

robin has always been the voice of reason for most hulla party-goers.
she always has been, and i'm sure always will be there to lend a helping hand where she can to people in need.

She's helped me in the past, and given me some great words of wisdom over the years. She may not say a lot outside of the friendly hello / have fun / take care, but when she does, you know it's from the heart, and she's sincere.

But then again, it is what I've come to know, and love from Hullabaloo, and all of it's crew.

I have to give a lot of credit to Athena for that one, though. In the end it's her liquor license on the line if something bad happens to someone, and she gets final say. She was the one who decided that if you went and had some food and coffee that it'd be okay to let your girlfriend back in, so the thanks should really go to her.

We had an incident earlier that night where a girl got kicked out for smoking inside, and when I said I wasn't willing to intervene on her behalf with security, she and her boyfriend got quite irate. (IMO, the rules against smoking inside are REALLY clear, so she should have known better.) As I left he yelled essentially the same thing, so I suspect he just went back into the party and that was him at the end of the night.

It always comes down to a judgement call. Your girlfriend was just drunk, and that's a state that passes. But if you're doing something against the rules, you bring it on yourself, and I'm not going to try to overrule security on that.

I happen to believe Robin is the 145th reincarnation of the Hailo Lama. See, the Hailo Lama died in 1937, and the monks of Sa-skya monastery have been searching for forty years for his reincarnation without success. The Lama would be recognized by the fact that he went around saying and doing wise things in small, sometimes mysterious ways, and that he would be doing good-will in the name of happiness without completely understanding why.
Through some unimaginable error in the cosmic switching yards, the Hailo Lama has been reincarnated as Robin Frolic.
Personally, my only stories of Robin are seeing her smiling in the lobby of Hulla, making everbody feel welcome, and once giving her a hug once, and saying thank you. But from eveyrthing I've heard, it's pretty convincing that we've found what the monks have been searching for.
We need all the Lamas we can get.

Security was considering punting one person because she'd had one too many and they were afraid she was going to fall down and hurt herself (and then the club would get in trouble). Security punted the other person because she knowingly did something that's clearly against the rules. It's an easy distinction to make. Ask other people who get booted for doing stuff they're not supposed to do; I don't help them either. I used to try, but then I realized 1) they were in the wrong and 2) often I'd be intervening on behalf of somebody who hadn't told me the whole story, and then I'd seem like an ass for trying to help somebody get back in who didn't actually deserve to get back in. So now my policy is that if somebody hasn't done something *wrong* per se and both they and security are in agreement on that, I'll see what I can do. But if they've broken the rules, or if they and security have different stories, I don't intervene on their behalf.

Anyway, I'm glad you got back in the party and enjoyed yourselves, and I'm especially glad you - as you put it - "definitely learned your lesson". That's what consequences are all about, making sure people learn not to do the same thing next time around.

I was thrilled to have him there. I knew that he would be able to look at our party and understand what it was all about. He was actually supposed to come on Friday so he could go to the pre-party, but due to a plane ticket mix-up, he ended up having to catch the red-eye on Friday night. I was so relieved when he actually got here (I think a part of me was fatalistically expecting another mix-up that would prevent him from being here).

I asked him the next afternoon if our party reminded him of how the hippie scene used to be. He said it did in a way - "the sense of freedom" was how he put it.

I'd always kind of hoped that he'd happen to have a business conference up here (he has a conference up here at least once a year) at the same time as one of our parties and he'd be able to attend, but that didn't happen, and now it was the last party, so I called him a few weeks beforehand and asked him to do everything in his power to get up here because it was really important to me to have him attend our last party. It just wouldn't have been the same without him there. I know looking over and seeing him standing at the side of the stage with a huge grin on his face will always be one of my favorite moments of the night.
