Out of style?
I've been getting the impression lately, that the look of the kandi raver is going the way of the dinos. Is this true? Are my days as a kandikid soon to be the way of the past?
*worried* What's a brightly-dressed raver to do? .:Kat:.

... i dont know what happened... there used to be a HUGE candy following but i think when clubs started doing the techno thing a lot more and the scene started going by way of the dino as you put it... every one instead of putting on comfy pants sneakers and cotton t-shirt with a care bear on it... would now put on Express Jeans, a cute top, and high heels... the club scene and rave scene are totally different... but in denver they have become one in the same. unfortunate but if there is 3 kandi kids at a party now days it would be huge... i still wear kandi to every party i go to... but i still wear my usual rave attire... A&F or a novel tee (mega man or something like that)

The candy movement is what BROUGHT me to raving to start with!
I won't let it die. Not with me, anyway. Even if I do look like an idiot with everyone around me staring. *grin* .:Kat:. |

I don't go to clubs/bars. I live in the middle of nowhere and I don't tend to drink. Added to that, I've got very few friends in the area to go with.
I do wear a little candy all the time, yes, but not nearly to the extent I party with. |

I find the candy style has been one of the longest fashion styles in history. It peaked in 1999, and here we are 6 years later still talking about it. Although I guess like goths, ravers found their "uniform" and it stuck.

I wish more people would dress candy!
People seem to have more fun when they dress crazy.

i actaully remember watching news reports on kandi kids back in the early, almost mid 90's..
i'm the kind of person that doesnt care if something is out of style though... i'd sport a michael jackson "beat it" jacket if i ever found one... that would be hot.. hehe.. i've always liked looking goofy though, in whatever form. |

i used to wear candy. but then once canadian parties started happening for me, crossing the border with it became too worrysome.

It never used to be just a happy hardcore thing... it was the rave fashion... now it seems only the hardcore kids will candy it up. Remember candy junglists? Those were the days.

... jungle kids now days (at least where i live) are a little bit more "earthy" ... like they have open toed Teva sandles and where a lot of linen, and drink like Red Stripe all the time... that and smoke a lot of marijuana.

it was pretty much when i started liking hardcore that i stopped wearing candy.
but again, it's cause the abundance of toronto hardcore parties, meaning i'd have to go through the border. or at least that's what i blame it on. but yes. agreed. candy isn't just for happy hardcore. i was proof. |

for me, it was a phase. and i think its a phase that most people will go through. i've worn my fair share of kandi. i stopped making kandi awhile ago. but i still have just as much as with or w/o the gear!

i was thinking about WHY i wear kandi, and i think I DO have more fun in kandi..its really hard to not have a blast when you look like a carebear the planning we put into our outfits when we go all out in kandi really makes me more excited for the event...i have thought about not going kandi anymore, or atleast not all crazy but i decided that would be no fun

I am newer to the scene and my husband is a lifer, he is 26 and has been raving for ten years his favorite part of the party other that the music is make the kandi and the outfits. Rarelly do you see him happier than when he is making kandi, listening to the music or making the outfit. I love the smile on his face.

i love my candy. i may wear a little less for like nyc parties, but i think i'm going to stop that. because whenever i don't go uber candy for something around here, i always wish i did as soon as i see the other people who did. it really is more fun. on that note, i don't think it's going to die out any time soon. because even around here, where it's not the most popular thing, there's always still a decent amount of reallly decked out candy kids. like courtney said, it'll only die out if youl et it. so let's not let it!

true, even in cleveland where there is zero happiness in the scene full of D&B
there are still a few candy kids roaming the streets, just gotta spot em.

i think the candy/kandi/kandy style is all about having fun and having heart....when i started i wore it for the first 3 years non stop no matter what.......then after a while i got tired of the nyc scene making fun of me when i had been partying longer than the kids who made fun of me.........when i found hulla i was soo happy that i could be candy and be proud........i still like to do up an outfit for other parties and i still wear candy but not as much as i do when i come up to toronto.
people are more accepting of candykids at hc parties in canada.
