Name...
"The Silver Age ends..."
Explanation? I'd say the golden age of events is pre-1997. Very tight community with a low turnover and the events being "underground" and gaining little notice (90210 "I'd like to exchange an egg" being the exception). Back when people were talking on BBSes and HTTP wasn't in the lexicon. In my opinion the silver age began around '98 with big venues and big events coming to the fore. Science Centre, Better Living Centre, and big clubs all willing to take on the events with bigger crowds to come. Anyone who was at Funtopia 2 at the bingo hall remembers 1) How big the place was and 2) How rammed it was. Although not exclusively hardcore ravers at the events, an underground energy still flowed through it. I'd say the silver age started dying a couple years ago with mainstream media attention and a few deaths surrounding the events. IDance tried to do something politically (and even got the attention of some councillors such as Olivia Chow) but event instability combined with some sketchy promoters at the time -- people who would book headliners like Ferry Corsten that never showed up -- scared people off. If Hullabaloo holding a final event isn't the sign of the end of an era of raves, I don't know what is. Some could say that Destiny dying would signal the end of an era, but Destiny is the biggest in Toronto as far as I know and they have a lot of air left in the bagpipe before it deflates. Even they have downscaled both the annual number of events they hold and the scope of the events. By making this list I'm not saying any one era is better than the other or even that it's an absolute truth. It was just a pattern that came out of how I saw raves as a whole. For all I know, maybe some newer ravers will think 2000-2001 was the golden age while the elders will say 1991-93 was the golden age and Funtopia 2 marked the end of the silver age. |

Why rearrange it? Just call it SRLIMFERBFFAFOTGBSRGITMFTWDPGSFEASFDB. Offer free merch to whoever can pronounce it. Go STEVE with two votes! I was going to suggest "Free TAcos!!!1" (With the capital "A" and the "1" and everything), but then I decided I'd rather use it for my first party. So hands off.
