They used to get rammed, but isn't it better when you can actually get through the place???

the only issue i have with hulla being SO empty is that frolic cannot enjoy having no one show up to his events, and i want him to enjoy throwing hulla so i can continue to enjoy going....

The reason I think the parties have started having a smaller and smaller attendance (it seems) is because the DJs that have been playing have all played within the last year a half. Newbies keep coming because they haven't seen them yet, but the older crowd don't need to see them all again, and stay home saving their money.

Hulla used to average 4000 people, 5 years ago. It was also just a small cog in the once mighty Toronto (and North American) rave machine, now it's mostly all that's left. There's ALWAYS been tremendous turnover in the scene. Back in '99 with those big mega parties we were losing them as fast as they were coming in. The difference today is without weekly events put on by other promoters there's little momentum left to build on.
But as was stated so perfectly above, The past is nothing but a lesson, enjoy the present. I really like that. Bob Dillon might have never played to as big a crowd as Woodstock '69 ever again in his life but he didn't stop playing music for the next 30 years. |

Well put Frolic. But the rave scene definately seems to be dying somewhat. I haven't heard of any events in my area for a long time now. And I remember when (as you said) they were happening almost every week. I miss the good 'ol days . I hope someday it be as popular as it used to be. With the Euro culture getting so big it shouldn't be to hard to do.

Please never cancel hulla, it's one of the most special events.
I like the dancing room, but I never want Hulla to die. |

the only way for the scene to survive is for people to participate. if you go to raves they will continue having them.

its like any fad (not that i wanna call raving a fad) it gets built up to a huge standard then it slowly dies and fades from most ppls minds so that only the regs will remember and head out to rave again.
im all for raving, i dont go that much cause i also have alot of things to do but i never want the scene to die. as long as ppl go and have fun and djs like frolic frisky etc keep puttin on shows, the rave shall never die, it has only begun |

i think that over all the north american scene has started to fade but just give it a bit and it will grow again i know that the new england/nyc scene(scene im apart of) has suffered a lot of blows over the last year...the asylum getting shutdown(that was the main venue), nyc venues just screwing shit up (not getting the right permits and what have u), etc. As long as people keep going and theres still djs to spin promotors will still have events...

the Toronto scene is struggling to make a comeback tour the way i see it.. there is a few fresh new promoters stepping up and taking care of some smaller hardcore parties, leaving the two big boys to take things from there..
off the top of my head, you have: Dima and the ICantStopRaving.com crew - good moderate sized parties Future Perfect Synergy - New to the block, but promising things Quixotic - not as HHC based, but still striving for the clouds Airhead - still kicking away at everything.. Goodfellaz X-Family - already have a few in the bag, and looking swell leaving the Goodfellaz, and Hulla to round up the big headliners and draw the big crowds.. I excited at where the scene is going, and hopefully the party kids are too! As mentioned, it takes the ravers to support the scene.. if you guys arent coming out, there's no money being turned over, only spent, and unfortunately, a lot of the promoters pockets arent as deep as they once were... Soo... everyone come out and support the scene.. it's the only way it is going to grow!

I don't think the scene is dying, but I don't beleive we're evolving either.
Hulla will be gone soon; and yeah, I'm sad. Hell, I may even cry on July 9th. Nothing's going to stop me from being there. 4 more missions to Toronto... four more, |

Oh god I can see myself in that picture! Fear. I love that guy on the stage! He was at every party with the "ANABOLIC IS GOD" tee shirt. He was so awesomely fucked of his face all the time. He told me he controlled the music with his glowsticks. Stage guy you rule! I'd link you to old hulla pics but theres pics of me on there that no one wants to see... well people would to laugh so NO PICS FOR ANYONE. Especially me from Hulla 7 & 8 lol! 9 was a bit embarrasing too. lol thats where that one up there is from *cower*
