Hulla dissed in this week's Fab
Article by Alex Rowlson in this week's Fab ( a Toronto gay bi-weekly free mag) talking about how his life changed by going through "Raving 101" at Hulla ("You could show up with a giant dildo on your head and people would applaud you for it") but now he is now just too cool for the scene ("It's all the little things that made a Hulla that I can't stand anymore... Now I'd rather lounge back in a spacious club or a chi-chi bar and sip on a cosmo").
Article is not online; mag available in Church/Wellesley neighbourhood.

Well, I wouldn't call that a dis, just a change of taste.
I'm getting to the sipping stage myself.

But was it a GIANT dildo Ian?
No, the bulk of the article was quite nasty in tone and it wasn't the first time that writer has put the scene down. I'm a tippler myself but I still want my hardcore. Praise be for the balcony at the Opera House. |

Ah whatareyagonnado? Hulla is what it is. I hate when people review our parties or one of my CDs and instead of reviewing for what it is, they let their personal biases get in the way. It's like if you were a movie critic and tore up every romantic comedy because it's not your thing, you wouldn't be in that job for long.
Anyways, at the end of the day it's all about the ravers on the dancefloor and it's only their opinions that I care about. |

Update
Just as an informational update - Alex Rowlson - the author of the article and once employed writer for Fab Magazine, no longer works for this publication.
Alex's column, *Twink,* was gearer towards a younger person's viewpoint of various articles of interest that could or was of interest to a younger gay/lesbian/bi/transgendered audience. The columns writer is required by the magazine to be under the age of 18, or something along the age boundaries like that, and he had reached this age of requirement a few months ago and has since been replaced as author of *Twink* by Matt Thomas. The magazine itself is geared towards the 'gay scene' in Toronto and since Hullabaloo is a widely accepting promotions company it only made sense that it was mentioned. Even if in the capacity of sarcasm and cynical remarks, that was how [and still is how] the entire magazine is written. I wouldnt take anything written in it too seriously Peace

What a shame that this article might discourage gay drunks from attending Hulla.

That bit from Fab wasn't even an insult to the Hulla!! The writer just basically said that he's growing up. Some people won't find the Hulla a wonderful thing for the rest of their life. Perhaps it is just a "phase" that they grew out of?? This is not the same for everyone, but for some people, perhaps even most.

Are you sure he's not saying that his life changed 'cause he's just seen the most disgusting thing in the world? I don't know if you understand what I'm saying but I think he's meaning to be an ass. But I really don't care I'm not saying I hate him for doing this 'cause (for the 50th time) Hulla is not for everyone!
