How in blazes did you freaks get your pics up into the avatar box.. each time I take a snapshot of myself on my cam... then resize it to be within the 50x50 maximum size limit... it'll say my pic is too big in size.. cant be more than 5000 bytes.. and i cant get it any lower than 11,000.. heh

Seizure, send me the picture you would like to have as an avatar, and I will fit it in...

The 5 000 bytes limit is idiot... Why don't they work with Kbs instead? It's really hard for the normal user to determine if the picture is fine yet, or if it needs a higher compression... So for your information, 5 000 bytes is about 4.8k. Make sure it is a little under that just to make sure...

I use Photoshop, I cut one square of the picture to resize it around 50x50, I paste it in a new picture, I resize it, and then I compress the picture when I save it into the jpeg format. I think that the level of jpeg compression I used was around 10.

Anyway, the offer is still valid, send your picture by email and I will send you back the avatar-sized one...

And it is also valid for others than Seizure, who would like a personnalized avatar...

I resize mine at 50x48 cuz thats what Photoshop does.. wont go 50x50... says its like 12k though... by the time i get it down to about 4k.. its like 10x10.. you cant see anything.. so theres no point in making it.. heh

I usually use "Save for Web" under the file menu...and save it as a .gif file...quality goes down but so does the file size....

And how come it won't make it 50x50? I run photoshop too and I was able to make my new avatar 50x50...

Dont know... when i try to resize the original image.. i type 50 in and it sets the default to 48 for the other one.. when i change that one to 50.. it sets the first number as 63 or something.. heh

make sure you don't have the box saying "constrain proportions" checked..

then you can stretch it whichever way you want..

oh.. and to bring the image size down, when you save for web, decrease the number of colours in the picture..

play with the settings, and you'll loose a bit of quality, but you probably won't notice too much..

remember.. this is an avatar we're talking about.. not some front graphic for a website
