Here's the lowdown on smoking @ Hulla
First off, as it's well known, as of June 1st there's NO SMOKING at any indoor bar/restaurant type facility in Toronto. That includes the Opera House so there will be no smoking indoors this weekend.
As a test at this Hulla, we will be allowing people to go outside to smoke in the patio area beside the Opera House Kitchen at the outside corner of the building. You might remember lining up around it. Your basic concrete patio with no furniture.
This is where it gets kind of complicated so please bear with me.
Access to the patio is through the front doors, but not the door you normally come through but the second set of doors in the front which is normally locked where you wait to come in. One would be the entrance the other would be to the smoking area. People coming back from the smoking area through those doors won't need to be searched again since they haven't left the premises technically.
There are a couple of issues though -
Access to the smoking area won't begin until AFTER the crowds have stopped or lessened lining up outside. I would say around midnight. Once the lineup has died down security will move the barricades to barricade a walkway from that second door to the patio to keep it secure.
Only a limited amound of people can fit out there at any one time. Security may ask you to go back inside if you're just hanging out. Please consider others and keep your visits short. It's in no way to be confused with a "chill room" and no one can sit on the ground there.
There are residential neighbors on that street, so we can't have people going crazy blowing their whistles or generally attracting attention. Please keep it reasonable while you're out there.
The success of offering this smoking area at future Hullas falls directly on the success of the test this weekend and the cooperation of those involved. I have no problems offering it, just don't screw it up and please share this info with those that don't read our board. Thanks.
