Well Swiss Chalet sucks then if they don't do anything to show gratitude towards the cooks, bussers etc. However, I wouldnt' say that being a dish kid is harder OR easier than serving, it's just a different job. I have done all jobs in a restaurant as training to be an Assistant Manager. I can tell you, there were days as a server where I would actually BEG my supervisor to lemme prep cook, or do the dish area, or even bus for gods sake - I got paid more and the work was easier. But hey that's just me.
