Your first OMGH audio sample...
Warning: Prepare for some Hulla flashbacks.
This is the very end of DJ Spice's set, as Storm and I take our places on the stage. This is one of my favorite memories of the entire party. Storm and I were in the backstage dressing room talking about how special this was going to be, and he was commenting about feeling the butterfly's in his stomach. About 5 minutes to 1AM we step upstairs. There are 3 noticeable crowd surges during this sample, the first was when we show up on stage, another when I take my place behind the decks, and another when Storm takes his place at the front of the stage. The electricity captured here is unbelievable, as was that original moment. This sample is such a unique Hulla experience, that without any prodding you can get the crowd sounding like this. http://www.hulla.info/djspicesample...labalooomgh.mp3 |
im likin it!

Well, you can imagine if that's what the atmosphere is like during a down tempo song where we go from here.
|
i heard someone played VNV, i wish i could have gooooonnne...
|
this sample is amazing!
the audio is the best i've ever heard from any hulla recording! the mastering is SPOT ON! the balance is great.... the whistles are clear and crisp... you can actually hear them, not just some shrill sound... the voices are also amazing! you can actually hear what people are saying! this is GREAT! and i can hear myself yelling "yeah" about 3 minutes into this sample! FUCKING A RIGHT CHRIS FROLIC! you are amazing... HOOLABALOO |
OMG! OMG!! That was awesome, I think I'm drooling a little. It felt like I was there! I didn't even get to go but it felt like I did when I listened to that. That sample definatly left me wanting to hear more.
I agree with everything Kyle said. The level of the whistles and the music and everything was perfect. I can't wait to hear the whole thing! Great job Chris!! |
I definately heard a "WHOOO" from Kyle in there also :) It is amazing Chris....I cannot wait for the whole thing.

We've come a long way with the technology we use to capture Hullas. I used to just hook up a hifi VHS vcr and record in 6 hour mode from an output on the mixer. that was how it was done the first few years.
Then we started renting DAT machines, but still pretty much dumped the music and MCs to tape. Then we added crowd mics, but still dumped to dat. Whatever was captured was what we ended up with, sometimes it worked better than others. Every party since Funtopia 7 has been recorded on a multi-track tape that I mix down myself afterwards. Generally this was done by me playing the tapes back through my mixer at home and recording a stereo mix on my PC with me playing with the levels live. For AGT and OMGH we dumped the multi-track tapes into a Pro-Tools system that handles movies and TV shows and I could really work them over. So I've been learning new tricks every time I do this. It takes a while, but considering that people will be listening to these for years, it's worth the effort. |
yo chris are we getting pauls euro set too!?
|
*sniffle*
I remember this! Sounds great....thanks for putting it up! <333 *edit* lol....wow I'm a tard sounded like I've heard it before? O.o eh *shrugs* Still awesome :p |
No, Paul's euro set wasn't part of the party. We opened the doors early to get people inside and he messed around a bit. the party started at 9pm and that's when the recordings start.

thats a really nice track Spice finishes with...whats it called?

dunno, but I like it too, very pretty and was a great set-up for us to take over. I have to give Spice all the credit in the world for having the maturity as a DJ to know we were going to overshadow anything he was going to do and instead just set us up. |
if i dont get to hear the hulla sandstorm there's going to be trouble
|
the song is VNV Nation "Illusion"
|
I know it's hard to tell how mixed up you feel
Hoping what you need is behind every door Each time you get hurt, I don't want you to change Because everyone has hopes, you're human after all The feeling sometimes, wishing you were someone else Feeling as though you never belong This feeling is not sadness, this feeling is not joy I truly understand, Please, don't cry now Please don't go, I want you to stay I'm begging you please, please don't leave here I don't want you to hate for all the hurt that you feel The world is just illusion trying to change you Please don't go, I want you to stay I'm begging you please, please don't leave here I don't want you to hate for all the hurt that you feel The world is just illusion trying to change you Being like you are Well this is something else, who would comprehend? But some that do, lay claim that Divine purpose blesses them That's not what I believe, it doesn't matter anyway A part of your soul ties you to the next world Or maybe to the last, I'm still not sure What I do know is, to use the world is different As we are to the world but, I guess you would know that |
*goosebumps*
|
The recording and mastering are just amazing. Clear as a bell. Are the crowd noises actually in stereo? VERY immersive!! I might have to look into the compilation!

Yeah, the crowd is in stereo. Well, wait until we get finished with the surround mix :). I had some more stereo fun when Kwik and Storm were on stage together. Kwik will sound like he's coming from centre left, Storm centre right, in virtual space :). |
*bounces up and down excitedly*
