Customs agents - IMPORTANT
American ravers - if you are crossing the border in the Buffalo-Niagara region, the border guards DO know about Hulla and they ARE looking for ravers. When I told them I was going to Toronto to drink with some friends (my standard answer) they asked "Internet friends?" and I said yes, because, well, you are Internet friends, somewhat. That was a trigger that had TEARING apart my bag, asking if I was smuggling drugs, and so on...
So please be EXTRA careful and do not, DO NOT do anything stupid, for your own sake and Hulla's. Classic line of the experience - "If you WERE transporting drugs, where would you put them?" Ok, THAT'S a trick question if ever I heard one. Just be honest and open and respectful- you aren't doing anything illegal. Don't give them an excuse to turn you around. |
I usually tell them I'm going to visit friends that go to the University of Toronto (because that's the truth too). If they ask where, I say they live off of younge street (because I know some people who do live there).
DO NOT make your story too complex, but have enough details that it seems legitimate. |
Grrr, i cant believe they know about it this time. EVERYONE just be sure to have your story straight and dont beat around the bush too much. Thanks for the warning.
Classic border convo: Guard: What kind of music is at this concert your're all going to? Us: Its mostly techo Guard: Do you have LSD in this vehicle!!!! |
Just be honest, forthright and polite and you'll be fine. Oh and DON'T be breaking any laws (obviously). The point I crossed was the Peace Bridge, whereas the Queenston Lewiston bridge is usually a little less difficult. Best of luck and see y'all tomorrow!

I wouldn't be surprised if they read message boards for things like this be paranoid ;) |
Although I live in Canada and don't have any need to cross the border, I have on a few occasions for work related reasons.
This isn't to make you paranoid, but they can find out almost everything and anything about you at the stroke of a few keys. Many of my coworkers were completely floored by some of the things that customs' officers know about you. They have dates, time, locations, and contacts for almost anything you do electronically. Like people said, be as honest as possible but not too detailed. |
be very straight forward.
they'll ask your citizenship possibly... answer honestly. have birth certificates, and ID READY BEFORE you get to the booth. when there, simply say you're going to the toronto club district to check out the clubs or you're going to see freinds.. if you have a hotel booked, it's all the better.. say you're staying at the _______ hotel and you have reservations.. that should be enough.. whatever you do, dont panic.. just be calm, collected, and easy going. make sure to take off your hat (if you have one) so they can see you in a clear manner. have your ID ready, and dont speak unless you're spoken to and for gods sake, DO NOT BRING DRUGS ACROSS!!!! |
Dont look like a raver crossing the border!!!
Infact dont even smile, they see one smile and one braclet and think your on those ecstacy pillz! |
